A marvelous Gandharan stucco head from the Indus Valley, ca. 4th - 5th Century A.D. This elaborately detailed example is 3-7/8? high and portrays a Bodhisattva wearing an ornate, gem-studded headdress with a large ornament at the front. In excellent condition, with good mineral deposits and retaining strong remnants of red pigment typical of the Hadda types. Mounted on stand. Cf. Pal ?Indian Sculpture?, page 221.
