Anglo-Saxon England, Secondary Series (710-760), Sceat, Series U, type 23b/d, Imitative [?], female figure looking right, wearing cynehelm and pleated smock, standing in crescent boat, small hands holding long cross pommée either side, rev. disjointed, long-necked, feathered bird (swan ?), striding right, in foliage, pecking berries (or serpent attacking from below), upward curled wing, 1.02g, 270° (SL 45-40, plate coin; SCBI 69, 791 this coin; MEC 8 Series Ub; North 83; Spink 816), light porosity, otherwise darker patination, a bolder very fine but for peripheral striking softness, scarce.
