Falkland Islands Government of the Falkland Islands 5 Shillings 12.10.1908 Pick A1A PMG Very Fine 30. Low serial B00011 is observed on this elusive issue from this group of islands off of the coast of Argentina. Although still under British administration, this Island nation has had a long colonial past that included the Spanish, the French, and then the British. Previously named Malvinas, the Falkland Islands have long been a source of contention, including an Argentine invasion that lead to the Falkland conflict in 1982. That conflict did not resolve anything, as neither Great Britain nor Argentina has altered their stance on the sovereignty of the Falklands. This will be the first time that we have offered an issued example from any part of the entire first issue. If one examines the totals of issued notes listed in The Banknote Book, it is clear how few were ever issued, perhaps as little as a couple of thousand. This is the only example graded by PMG.
