Panama Banco Central de Emision 5 Balboas 1941 Pick 23a PMG About Uncirculated 53. The 1941 Panamanian series of banknotes is as infamous as it is popular. The Banco Central de Emision ordered a series of banknotes which were issued by president Dr. Arnulfo Arias. However, seven days later while on a state visit to Cuba, Arias was deposed by military coup and replaced by Ricardo de la Guardia. One of his first decrees was to end Banco Central and redeem the newly issued banknotes. About half of the printed stock entered circulation within the first week, with the balance being destroyed soon after. Notes that entered circulation were deemed for withdrawal over a ten year period. As such, only a scant few examples exist today. This handsome, lightly circulated 5 Balboas is the second denomination of the series. Only brief circulation and a lightly toned left margin are mentioned for accuracy. Rare in any grade, examples are especially desirable in this state. Widely sought after, this is a terrific and historic banknote from the only series of banknotes issued for Panama. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/panama-banco-central-de-emision-5-balboas-1941-pick-23a-pmg-about-uncirculated-53/a/4033-28405.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4033-10232021 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
