South Vietnam National Bank of Viet Nam 1000 Dong ND (1955-56) Pick 4As Specimen PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. Incredible originality is present on this Specimen which represents arguably the most famous design for any banknote of the 20th Century. The old man and temple at front is stunning. Its visual impact is well matched by the woman and sampan boat on the back. The Bank of France created this proposed banknote and printed this Specimen, which was made with a black overprint on each side as well as a three digit Specimen number at front. Regretfully, this most beautiful design was never issued. Perhaps the sheer face value would have prevented its everyday use? Or perhaps the size of this note was too much larger than the others of this series? For whatever reason, this was stunning design never passed the prototype phase. PPQ status adds desirability to this already fantastic Specimen.
