Gordian III (238-244). AE Sestertius, 240 AD. Obv. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. VIRTVS AVG SC. Virtus standing facing, head left, holding spear and branch, shield at feet. RIC IV 273; C. 222. AE. 17.63 g. 28.00 mm. A superb example, from masterly engraved dies, in oustanding state of preservation. Lovely leather brown patina. Good EF.
