COSTA RICA. Escudo, ND (ca. 1849-57). NGC EF Details--Cleaned.
Fr-4a; KM-84. Type VI bi-facial countermark, Lion left, legend around. Countermark applied to an 1849-CR JB Costa Rica (Central American Republic) Escudo. The countermark is boldly applied to a moderately worn host displaying lovely rich patina with brighter coloration atop of the devices and exposed areas. Close inspection reveals evidence of a past cleaning, now slightly subdued and attractive.
