FRANCE. Lion & Lioness Art Deco Bronze Uniface Plaque, ND (ca. 1931). Paris Mint. CHOICE UNCIRCULATED.
Diameter: 80mm x 47mm; Weight: 125.12 gms. By M. Thenot. African animals series. Obverse: Lion and lioness standing left among the weeds; Reverse: Blank. Edge: [cornucopia] BRONZE; a few light marks on the bottom side. Glossy bronze-brown surfaces.

Likely issued around the time of the French colonial expo-held in Paris from May-November 1931-this is from a series of ten plaques sculpted by Maurice Rene Thenot displaying animals from Africa. All are rather imposing and feature the very much en vogue use of Art Deco.
