ITALY. Naples & Sicily. Piastra (120 Grana), 1731-VMA DG. Naples Mint. Charles VI, as Holy Roman Emperor. NGC VF-30.
Dav-1396; KM-145. The first year in a brief, RARE, two-year type, this circulated crown presents mostly gunmetal gray surfaces with some hints of olive, all while retaining great originality throughout.

Naples and Sicily were ruled by the Spanish Habsburgs from the time of Charles I to the death of Charles II in 1700. Philip V attempted to retain the kingdom for Spain, but was forced to surrender it in 1713 by the Treaty of Utrecht. Naples went to Austria and Sicily went to Savoy, which traded it to Austria for Sardinia in 1720. Both were reconquered by the Spanish and given to Charles of Bourbon, Philip's younger son, in 1738. This Piastra was issued by the Austrian administration before the Spanish reconquest.

Estimate: $1000 - $1500
