MEXICO. Cob Escudo, 1711-MXo J. Mexico City Mint. Philip V. NGC AU-58.
Fr-7c; KM-51.1; Cal-type-206#1736. Weight: 3.31 gms. Pop: 5, none graded finer by NGC. Crosslet End Cross Variety. A nicely struck Cob with clear date and mintmark, and pleasing golden-yellow surfaces. An overall quite pleasing example of a historic, late dated Cob, struck in the waning years of the War of Spanish Succession.

The use of the unusual "MXo" mintmark for a limited number of years resulted from a series of misunderstandings between Spain and Mexico City as to what a 'normal' insignia for the mint really looked like.

Estimate: $3000 - $4000
