MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1733-Mo F. Mexico City Mint. Philip V. NGC AU Details--Removed from Jewelry.
Fr-8; KM-148; Cal-type-298#2229; Onza-422. A RARE emission from the Mexico City Mint, during the second year of transition between cob and milled type coinage. It is boldly struck, with luster still clinging to portions of the fields, and sports a bright yellow golden hue. The cataloger notes some unevenness in the fields, as though the planchet were slightly rumpled or distorted during striking. It may well be that this is a result of times, as in this year, mint personnel were still grappling with the new machinery for milled coins, and may not have had good control of striking pressures. Though this coin is noted as removed from jewelry, very little evidence of such is visible around the rims or on the edges. There are some light scratches noted to the right of the bust.
Estimate: $3000 - $4000
