MEXICO. Mint Error -- Stuck on Steel Planchet -- 2 Pesos, 2019-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-64.
KM-604. A remarkable mint error that was produced just two years ago in Mexico City. The cataloger hypothesizes the stainless steel planchet originated from the center of one of the bimetallic 10 or 20 Pesos issues. Possibly lodged in the corner of a bag or hopper that was used for multiple denominations, the bimetallic center could have freed itself and ended up in the striking chamber of 2 Pesos, after which the error escaped the mint. Alternatively, it could be a steel ring without the center removed and replaced with aluminum-bronze.
Estimate: $150 - $300
