Diameter: 25mm. Obverse: Olive tree and pole with hat enclosed within tuyn; Reverse: I / APRIL / 1572 in three lines within wreath. Edge: Plain. A SCARCE piece, especially in this highly attractive, elite grade, the present specimen celebrates the 300th anniversary of the Capture of Brielle--an important event in the uprising of the Lowlands against Spain during the 80 Years' War. The iconography features a tuyn (sheepfold), an aspect commonly encountered in Dutch coinage of the 18th century.
