Obverse: Queen Isabel II standing left, holding infant Alfonso (the future Alfonso XII); lion behind her, resting forepaw upon shield; throne with scepter and crown upon cushion to right; at a distance to left, sun rising over seascape, with ship under sail and crowned Pillars of Hercules; Reverse: Helmeted arms of Barcelona, with implements of science, art, industry, religion, and commerce around; to left and right, seated personifications of the Mediterranean Sea and the Montjuic; numerous factories and railroads in background. A SCARCE and interesting issue, with a highly ambitious design with great relief.
