57mm. By Padro & Sala. Commemorating the inauguration of the Villanueva to Barcelona railway. Obverse: COMPAÑÍA DE LOS FERROCARRILES DIRECTOS DE MADRID Y ZARAGOZA A BARCELONA, front of locomotive left, on top of which sits Hephaistos/Vulcan (representing industry), holding hammer; to left, Hermes/Mercury (representing commerce) flying left, head facing, holding purse and caduceus; seascape in background, with rainbow above; Reverse: INAUGURACION DEL TRAYECTO DE VILLANUEVA A BARCELONA, female personification of Catalunya seated facing, resting hands upon shield to left and right; factory scene and beehive (each representing industry) before mountains in background; garlanded coat-of-arms below. Quite bright and flashy from a prior cleaning, but with no real evidence of rub upon the high points. A few minor bruises at the rims are noted, accounting for the designation.
