LOCOMOTIVES & TRAINS. Argentina - Chile. Locomotive/Chilean Delegates in Buenos Aires Silvered Bronze Medal, 1903. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Diameter: 57mm; Weight: 72.36 gms. By Casanovas y Horta. Obverse: AVSPICIVM - MELIORIS - AEVI -, locomotive emerging from tunnel; rising sun in background; in foreground, olive tree with winged caduceus and shields bearing arms of Chile and Argentina bound together; Reverse: "LA CIUDAD / DE / BUENOS - AIRES / A / DELEGADOS / DEL / GOBIERNO DE CHILE / 25 MAYO 1903" in eight lines over olive branch. Edge: Plain. Charming gunmetal gray surfaces, with just a hint of light rub upon the high points.

Given their extensive border, Argentina and Chile have experienced their fair share of territorial disputes, as their lengthy neighboring lands run for over 3,300 miles. Following a heated escalation in 1902, King Edward VII of Great Britain intervened, quelling the tensions in an equitable manner. In commemoration of the newly found peace, delegates from Chile were eagerly welcomed into Buenos Aires, as depicted on this medal.

Estimate: $60 - $100
