Niggl-227; Diameter: 60mm; Weight: 101.00 gms. By J. Remenyi. Mintage: 300. Obverse: Bare head left; Reverse: Seminude male, with features of Beethoven, seated right on rock, playing lyre. Edge: Plain. Alluring olive-brown surfaces, with a great sculpted nature and impressive relief. A VERY RARE type in the Beethoven series of medallic art.

Born in the Electorate of Cologne, Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) displayed an immense musical aptitude from a young age, and studied under Joseph Haydn upon moving to Vienna. A crucial figure between the Classical and Romantic periods, he had a colossal output of material before being robbed of his hearing ability later in life.
