Rhine Legions. Anonymous, circa May/June-December 68. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.52 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in Gaul or in the Rhine Valley. 'S P Q R Group'. SALVS [GEN]ERIS HVMANI Victory standing right on globe, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond in her left. Rev. S P Q R within laurel wreath. BMC -, cf. 31 (oak wreath). CG 103.3 (this coin). Cohen -, cf. 421 (oak wreath). Martin -, cf. 78 (oak wreath). Nicolas -, cf. 71 (oak wreath). RIC -, cf. 73b (oak wreath). Unpublished and one of three known examples. A fresh and attractive coin. Somewhat rough and with minor scratches, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the collection of Dipl.-Ing. Christian Gollnow, privately acquired from H.J. Berk in October 1993.

This extremely rare variety replaces the oak wreath on the reverse with a laurel wreath. It is known in three examples only, all of which were struck from the same die pair and are present in the Gollnow collection (lots 1111-1113).
