Forces of Vitellius in Gaul and in the Rhine Valley. Anonymous, 2 January-19 April 69. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.62 g, 10 h), Lugdunum. 'Jupiter-Vesta Group'. I O M CAPIT[OLINVS] Diademed heroic bust of Jupiter Capitolinus to left, wearing drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. [VE]STA P R QVIRITIVM Vesta seated left, holding patera in her right hand and torch in her left. BMC 72 note. CG 126.2 (this coin). Cohen 432 var. (no palm frond). Martin 96. Nicolas 103. RIC 125b. Extremely rare. A nicely toned example of unusual style. The obverse struck slightly off center and with some minor edge chipping, otherwise, very fine.
