Forces of Vitellius in Gaul and in the Rhine Valley. Anonymous, 2 January-19 April 69. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.34 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in Gaul or in the Rhine Valley. 'Plated Jupiter-Vesta Group'. VESTA P R QVIRITIVM Veiled, diademed and draped bust of Vesta to right; before, burning torch. Rev. FIDES - EXERCITVVM Clasped right hands. BMC 64. CG 8.3 (this coin). Cohen 364. Martin 8. Nicolas 7. RIC 126. Very rare, one of just twelve known examples, only four of which are in private hands. Boldly struck on a large flan. Somewhat crystallized, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dipl.-Ing. Christian Gollnow, privately acquired from Yves Gunzenreiner on 11 November 2015 and ex Auctiones GmbH E-Auction 34, 22 February 2015, 90.

While not plated, this coin has been assigned here to the 'Plated Jupiter-Vesta Group' as it differs clearly from the fine style coins struck in Lugdunum. Where exactly it was struck is impossible to say, but a moving military mint seems most likely.
