KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.61 g, 12 h), Arados or Tarsos (?), circa 325/4-324/3. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Nike standing front, head to left, with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; to lower right, wreath. Price 3456 (Sidon). Very rare. A lustrous, sharp and interesting coin. The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good extremely fine.

Ex Leu 5, 27 October 2019, 67 and previously from a European collection, formed before 2005.

While the early 'Sidon' staters (Price 3456-3466) have recently been reattributed to Tarsos, this coin differs significantly in style. Furthermore, it was struck from the same obverse die as the 'Arados' stater in Leu Web Auction 4, 24 June 2018, 152, suggesting, thus, that both coins were issued by the same mint.
