Draped bust of Artemis to right, wearing stephane and necklace and with bow and quiver over her shoulder. Rev. ABY-ΔH-NΩN / APIΣΤΩNOΣ Eagle standing right with wings spread; in field to right, crested Macedonian helmet to right; all within laurel wreath. Callataÿ, Abydos, -. A bright and attractive piece perfectly centered on a very broad flan. Minor doubling on the obverse and with light traces of overstriking, otherwise, good extremely fine.
This coin was overstruck on a tetradrachm of Mithridates VI Eupator, king of Pontos in circa 120-63 BC, with his forehead and nose still visible in front of Artemis on the obverse.
