ARABIA, Eastern. Oman Peninsula. Mleiha (?). Coins without patronym, mid 2nd to 1st century BCE. Obol (Silver, 11 mm, 0.92 g, 12 h), imitating Alexander 'the Great' (336-323 BCE). Stylized head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. Male figure seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and forepart of a horse in his right; to left, palm stem; to right, blundered Aramaic inscription. CCK 129 = Haerink, Abiel, 73 = van Alfen 116b (this coin, O6/R9). Potts (Suppl.) 221 ff. A lovely coin of charmingly crude style and with beautiful iridescent toning. Slightly porous, otherwise, extremely fine.
