Provenance: The 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, and thence by descent.

Lord Louis Mountbatten, later the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, accompanied the Prince of Wales on his tour of India and Japan in 1921-2. The royal party spent a week in Nepal in December 1921 and it was at this time that Lord Mountbatten was presented with these coins as a gift from the Maharaja (the note from the Maharaja's secretary accompanies the lot)
