Meiji gold Yen Year 7 (1874) MS62 PCGS, Osaka mint, KM-Y9a, JNDA 01-5A, JC-09-5-2. One of the few attainable dates in this four-year series. The reported mintage of 116,341 pieces is, more or less, inconsequential to its true rarity, as data suggests that very few Meiji 7 gold Yens were released for circulation. Indeed, this is only the third example we have handled (and the second in Mint State). Showcasing light handling for the grade, this offering is tied with the Pinnacle specimen and is highly desirable so fine.
