MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV quarter-stater (11mm, 2.13 gm, 12h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 3/5, marks. Late lifetime-early posthumous issue of Amphipolis, ca. 325-319 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in three tight corkscrew curls, two more curls over left shoulder, wearing necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short divergent crest ends, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞAN/ΔPOY, horizontal bow and club left, horizontal thunderbolt above. cf. Price 165 (ethnic in opposite positions). Well struck and centered on bright flan.
