Louis the Pious (814-840) Denier ND (816-822/3) MS62 NGC, Tours mint, Class 2, MG-371, Dep-1036 (47 examples studied). 1.75gm. +HLVDOVVICVS IMP, cross pattée within beaded border / TVRO | NES in two lines across field. A classically challenging type and a much scarcer mint than the more widely seen mint name in field Deniers of Venice, this being the first such example we have encountered. Soundly executed in good style, with a light russet tone along the devices. Sold with old collector's envelope.
