British India. Madras Presidency gold 5 Rupees (1/3 Mohur) ND (1820) MS65 NGC, Madras mint, KM422, Prid-244. An opulent gem representative of this type, which was introduced in May of 1820 as a matter of transactional convenience owing to its equivalence to 5 silver Rupees. Sharply struck throughout the central motifs, with only a hint of adjustment noted to the obverse periphery and gleaming sun-gold brilliance echoing throughout the fields. This specimen ranks as the single-finest example yet encountered by the grading services-- a testament to its exceptional quality of preservation.
