Military Merit Mauritiana gold Officer's Medal ND (Instituted 1839) MS62 NGC, cf. Barac-267 (different reverse legend). 51mm. 79.56gm. This large gold medal depicts Saint Maurice on horseback with large banner, and was presented to soldiers having 50 years of military service. While this piece imitates the Type III issues, "AL CAVALIERE MAURIZIANO" has been removed from the reverse legend. A pleasing example rarely seen at auction in this size, and in appreciable near-Choice Mint State.
