Catherine II gold Rouble 1779 MS62 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-C76, Bit-115 (R), Diakov-388. Only a one-year type, and a highly challenging issue to locate this close to Choice Mint State. Even for a small coin, at an arm's length the brilliance of the present piece is fully appreciable, with closer examination revealing strong die polish. Though the bust shows evidence of corrosion on the die, Catherine's features are still appreciable.
