KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (29mm, 17.14 g, 12h). Abydos mint. Struck circa 297/6-282/1 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; star to inner left. Thompson –; Müller –; HGC 3, 1750c. Deposits, die breaks on reverse. Good VF.
Although unpublished, the style of the dies used for this issue is identical to that found on the plate coin for Thompson 72, as well as other published examples of Thompson 71 (cf., e.g., CNG 45, lot 288). Clearly, these dies were engraved by the same hand.
