Vitellius. AD 69. AR Denarius (18.5mm, 3.40 g, 6h). Spanish mint (Tarraco?). Struck circa January-June AD 69. Laureate head right, globe at point of neck / CONSENSVS EXERCITVM, Mars advancing left, mantle flowing behind him, holding a spear with his right hand and cradling an aquila with vexillum with his left arm. RIC I 20 var. (EXERCITVM instead of TVVM); RSC 23 var. (same); BMCRE 84 Note . Light porosity overall, a few scratches. VF. Very rare legend variety.

From the Mercury Group Collection.

RIC I note 23 on p. 269 calls the BMCRE 84 reverse legend EXERCITVM (instead of the more common ending TVVM) "probably a misreading," but this example and a handful of other published specimens prove it is not
