The engraver of the dies for this series, Walter Mould, initially included his initials on the obverse die (Maris 62.5), but was apparently ordered to remove them, engraving over the letters with a sprig. This example, the popular Maris 6-D, features the horse's ears in the shape of the letter M, possibly a hidden signature of Mould.
