Great Britain, medium-sized silver Admiral Vernon medal, Vernon / Porto Bello, 1739, rare, ex-Adams. AC-PBv12J. 31 mm, 12.28 grams. Bold XF with light toning around details, struck on a cast flan (to control thickness) with notably high rims. The AC reference shows a census of only 65 silver Vernon medals (just 2% of the total for all the medals), over half residing in institutional collections. XRF: 90.07% silver, 9.13% copper. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag).
