Malaya 1.1.1940 P-1 PCGS Choice UNC 64 10 Dollars

A highlight of this auction and an absolete key note offered this calendar year. Malaya is a fascinating country to collect and it has seen an explosion of interest in the past two years. The purple $10 is the highest denomination of Waterlow & Sons' 1940 series, which is the first issued for Malaya. By this time, the Straits Settlements was only a portion of British possessions in the area, so a larger, more unified currency was created. The $1 and $5 of this 1940 series was ill-fated and never officially issued, which made the $10 the only note of the series released on a large scale. However, World War II followed within months, and this note's issuance was halted in an effort to stall the Japanese economic ambitions. Occupation currency ensued, and in 1945, a new series of Malaya notes were issued to replace the purple $10 and other notes from the 1940 series. This stunning, Uncirculated example is finest graded by a reputable grading company. The visual appeal is outstanding for grade. This note is extremely popular in any grade, but this fantastic, Choice Uncirculated note is an absolute show stopper and is an upgrade candidate for even the finest collections.
