The Caliphate
Umayyad Dynasty, Umar II, 99-101 AH, Ifriqiya (North Africa), 101 AH, Dinar, Bernardi 44Ca, 16 mm, 4.27 g.
Very rare type and year produced in the monetarily interesting Ifriqiya during the short reign of the 8th Umayyad Caliph. This is the second earliest Umayyad post-reform Dinar from Ifriqiya (perhaps a mint in Tunisia).
Two types of planchets were used in Ifriqiya in 101 AH. This specimen is an attractive example of the earlier, smaller diameter issue.
