The new king would arrive by sea at the port of Cartagena on December 30, 1870. A few days later on January 2, 1871, Amadeo presented in the Atocha basilica in Madrid, his respect and condolence at the tomb of Prim, his principal defender and that he had been assassinated a few days before.
