ALFONSO XIII. Universal Exhibition of Barcelona. (Ae. 61.81g / 50mm). 1888. Engravers: Solá, Arnau and Castells. (Cru. Medalles 760a). Almost Extremely Fine. Reverse stain.

The chronicles of those days that the exhibition was opened to the public on April 8, 1888, with the presence of the Barcelona authorities and a blessing made by the bishop of Barcelona, Jaime Catalá y Albosa, tell us. However, the official inauguration took place on May 20, 1888, and was presided over by King Alfonso XIII, who was then two years old, the Queen Regent María Cristina, the Princess of Asturias María de las Mercedes, the President of the Práxedes government Mateo Sagasta and the Mayor of Barcelona Francisco de Paula Rius y Taulet. Other personalities attending the event were: the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Genoa and the Princes of Wales, as well as numerous diplomatic delegations.
