The sphinx is a typical representation of the Abdera polis in Thrace and the Chios and Teos polis in Ionia. Extraordinarily rare and precious specimen, similar to lot 163 of the auction 02/27/2002 by Aureo & Calicó, which classified it as an unpublished piece, awarded for \u20ac 1800
