Indo-Skythians, Bhadrayasha AR Drachm. Circa 50-40/35 BC. In the name and types of Zoilos II or III. Diademed and draped bust of Zoilos to right; BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣΟΤΗΡΟC ZΩIΛOΥ around / Athena Promachos advancing to left, holding shield on her left arm and brandishing thunderbolt with her right; monogram to right, 'Maharajasa Tratarasa Bhadrayashasa' ('of Great King, Bhadrayasha the Saviour' in Kharosthi script around. Very Fine. Very Rare; Senior noted eleven examples of this ruler in the Chakwal Hoard (Senior Supp., pp. 130-147).
Bhadrayasha is considered to have been a minor Indo-Skythian ruler in the areas of Eastern Punjab and Mathura in India, during the 1st century CE. He is considered one of the Northern Satraps, who held sway over the area after the decline of the Indo-Greeks and were eventually probably displaced by, or became vassals of, the Kushans from the time of Vima Kadphises.
Bhadrayasha is known primarily through his coinage, which are direct imitations of those of either Zoilos II or the hypothetical Zoilos III whose existence is postulated by J. Jakobsson.
