Strait Settlements, $5, 1.9.1898, serial number A/4 62611, black and purple, '5' at each corner, supported arms upper centre, printed manuscript signatures, 'FIVE' in underprint, reverse black, tiger at centre,(Pick 2), PMG 20 Very Fine (Minor Restoration). The earliest dated note from the Government of the Straits Settlements. An impressively rare and large sized note with only 18 notes graded by PMG and only 3 notes in higher grades than this. A vintage note that has seen circulation but still pleasing to the eye. Should attract ferocious bidding on the day!.
