GERMANY. Empire, 1871-1918. Matte silver medal ND (1917-1918) by B. H. Mayer. 60.5 mm. Germany grateful to Switzerland. Zetsman 5052. AR. 85.26 g. - UNC See lot 686 for the 34 mm version. Extremely rare, usually found with a diameter of 34 mm. This medal has been awarded to M. Frédéric Barbey-Ador for his involvment as member of International Committee of Red-Cross, about the German prisonners of war during the World War I. In the original case of issue with "IN DANKARBEIT DIE DEUTSCHE HEERESVERWALTUNG". BHM 990 on edge. The "Helvetia Benigna" medal was offered on May 15th, 1917 by Kaiser Wilhelm II and awarded to Swiss nationals who rendered service to German prisoners of war and internees during World War I.
