The emperor Hadrian decided to build a new colony named Aelia Capitolinia on Jerusalem and wanted to erect a new Temple in honor of Jupiter on the site of Herodes' temple which was burnt down by Titus during the first Jewish war in 68-69 AD. Simon Bar Kochba took commands of all of the Judeans forces. It took the Romans three years, from 132 to 135 AD, to end the revolt. During this period Bar Kochba struck different issues notably this coin with a representation of the temple of Jerusalem. The Great temple had been destroyed by Titus
in 69 AD and remains a huge symbol for all Jewish people.
