IRAN: SAFAVID: Isma'il I, 1501-1524, AR ½ shahi (4.70g), NM, AH928, A-2589, countermarked 'adl shah 928 on the reverse of a half shahi of type A-2384 (2nd standard), but the mint and date of the host has been obliterated by the use of another coin on the reverse during the countermarking, confirmed by its retrograde appearance over the obverse! VF countermark on VG-Fine host, RRR. The date within the countermark confirms that it was authorized by Isma'il's administration, and seems to have been used almost exclusively on types A-2383 and A-2384 of the 2nd standard.
