MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 500-450 BC. Stater (Electrum, 19 mm, 15.75 g). Sea eagle, with spread wings, alighting on a tunny fish, which he clasps with his talons and tears with his beak. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Von Fritze 94 and pl. III, 13 = BMFA 1454 = Greenwell 151 = Warren 1576. Of great rarity, probably the third known example. With a powerful depiction of a sea eagle, possibly derived from the types of the Black Sea city of Sinope, a trading partner of Kyzikos. Somewhat weakly struck or struck from a worn obverse die, otherwise, good very fine.

From a Bavarian collection, acquired prior to the 1990s.
