IONIA. Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. Trite (Electrum, 15 mm, 4.48 g), Lydo-Milesian standard. Pair of conjoined lion's heads, each with a powerful eye and open jaws. Rev. Two incuse squares with a "horse-shoe" pattern. Cf. Roma XVII, 508 & Roma XIX, 412 (both struck from the same obverse die). Cf. Weidauer 117-125 for similar style. For similar obverse and reverse types on hektai: cf. CNG 61, 2002, 706-8 and eAuction 235, 2010, 186 and Gorny & Mosch 104, 2000, 384 and 115, 2002, 1171. Very rare. Boldly struck and with attractive toning. Extremely fine.
