Rev. DIS / CONIVGALIBVS Lighted altar adorned with a garland. Biaggi 1030. BMC 30. Calicó 2372. Cohen 2. RIC 280a. Sear II 5990 (this coin illustrated). Very rare. A superb specimen, of fine style and with carefully engraved types. Good extremely fine.

Sold on behalf of the Compagnie Bancaire Helvétique, Switzerland, ex Numismatica Genevensis 4, 11 December 2006, 189, from the "Perfectionist" Collection, Leu Numismatics 87, 6 May 2003, 44, ex Numismatic Fine Arts XXVI, 14 August 1991, 265.

The reverse of this wonderful aureus of Crispina celebrates her marriage vows with Commodus in 177: the garlanded altar shown on the reverse was the one over which the vows were pledged. This coin is probably from the very first issue of coinage struck in Crispina's name, and it is by far the rarest of all her already rare gold coins.
