SICILY. Leontini. Circa 476-466 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.99 g, 7 h). Bearded charioteer driving quadriga galloping to right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. ΛΕΟΝΤΙΝΟΝ (retrograde and partially upside down) Lion's head with open jaws to right; around, four grains of barley. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte 2. Pozzi 462 (this coin). SNG Copenhagen 335 (same dies). Beautifully toned, of fine style and very well-preserved. Extremely fine.

A superb piece from Leontini's earliest tetradrachm issue; its obverse was copied from those on the contemporary tetradrachms of Syracuse.
