TABARISTAN. 'Abbasid governors. period of al-Rashid, AH 170-193 / AD 786-809. Hemidrachm (Silver, 22.5 mm, 1.92 g, 11 h), under the governor Ma'add, PYE 138 / AH 173 (= AD 789/90). GDH 'pzwz (may his splendor increase) M'd (Ma'add) to the left; on the margins: 'pd (excellent) to right and nwk' (good) to left. Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing winged crown; pellets flanking crown. Rev. Date on the left - Tpwlst'n (Tabaristan) on the left field. Sasanian-style fire altar flanked by two attendants; stars flanking flames. In the outer margin, alternating triple pellets and star-in-crescents. Album 66. Malek 108.7. Very rare! Ma'add's name only appears on coins struck in this year. Good very fine.
