Cast Medal (Bronze, 43 mm, 44.23 g, 12 h), after a work by Alessandro Cesati "il Grechetto", year XVI (1549), but probably made sometime during the 17th-18th centuries. ✷PAVLVS▴III▴ PONT▴ MAX▴ AN▴ XVI Bust of Paul III to right, wearing tonsure and mantum. Rev. ΦEPNH · ZHNOΣ · / EYPAINEI Ganymede standing facing slightly to the left, supporting upturned urn on right shoulder to water flowers and resting left hand on an eagle standing right, looking left, and with its wings spread. CNORP II 311 (Modesti). With an attractive reddish-brown patina and darker toning in the recesses. Very fine.
